Have you had wisdom teeth removed? I have 2 questions?!

Question: I had my lower wisdom teeth removed 3 weeks ago, and the left side of my jaw, from chin to about half way back is STILL numb. I called and they said they must have hit a nerve (duh). Has anyone had numbness that has lasted that long?

On the right side, I have jaw bone SHOWING, and not where they removed the tooth on that side. It's slightly lower than the hole, on the inside of my jaw. The dentist verified it was bone when I realized I could feel something back there and returned to have her look at it. There is more bone showing now than 2 weeks ago. Has anyone had this problem? She said it should heal over, but obviously it's not.

Thanks for any answers!

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed in Aug.2006. I too had numbness from the middlle of my lower lip to the right side and also a numb chin on the right side, the left side of my lip and chin were perfectly normal. It took months for the numbness to subside and to this day when I touch a fingernail to the right side of my lip it feels like a pin pricking it. I was told that if you dont have full sensation by 6 months you have permanent nerve damage and unfortunatly is a rare, permanent side effect of the surgeon hitting a nerve and causing permanent damage to that nerve. AS far as the bone showiing through, please keep pursuing that problem with your surgeon. Hopefully it will resolve itself. Good luck

You should go back to your oral surgeon right away. Exposed bone is NOT a good thing, especially in the mouth with all of the bacteria hanging out there. Two weeks is plenty of time for the incision to heal and if it shows signs of getting worse, that's not good.
