LASEY,
THE ONLY WAY TO TREAT THIS DENTAL CONDITION IS TO HAVE YOUR DENTIST MAKE YOU AN N.T.I. BRUXISM APPLIANE YOU WEAR AT NIGHT.
SEE THE LINK BELOW.

You can get it fixed with lots of money and time. My daugher suffers from TMJ. We are now three grand in the hole and she still has jaw pain, and has to sleep in a devices that was made for her. Some doctors will tell you it is medical condition and some say it's dental, you have to hash it out with your insurance company.

Let me educate you just a little first. Everyone has TMJ. That is the abbreviation for the name of your jaw joint. What you can sometimes develop is TMJD (disorder). Not trying to be a smartypants.....just wanted you to know the difference.
There are many degrees of TMJD. Some people experience severe pain, locking of the jaw and popping with or without noise when opening. If you know you clench or grind your teeth you will probably at least experience headaches, teeth sensitivity and changes in your bite. Wearing a night guard during sleeping will help these symptoms in most cases. See your dentist about this and see if he makes night guards or bite splints (depends on what he calls them).
