I've had a bad cold for a week and now my entire row of teeth on the top left ar!

Question:

I've had a bad cold for a week and now my entire row of teeth on the top left are aching. Could it be related

the cold symptoms have gone on for over a week now. at this point i have tons of nasal congestion, am coughing up phlegm, and generally miserable.
for the past few days, and especially today, i feel a deep, dull ache affecting all my top left teeth (and gums).
could the cold & the dental pain be related? anyone else experienced this?

Additional Details

oh -- and i had my last dental checkup only 2.5 months ago, so i'm doubtful that this is a cavity thing...

Answers:

It is very common for sinus infections/congestion to cause teeth to ache. The roots of your upper back teeth sit right in the base of your sinuses, so when there is inflammation present, it pushes down on your teeth. We've had MANY patients come to our dental office certain that they have an abscessed tooth and they are actually suffering from sinus problems. I really don't think you have a tooth problem, sounds more like sinus infection. See your family doctor, hope you feel better soon!
