Lock jaw? Or just something else?!

Question:

Lock jaw? Or just something else?

I'll start off by saying I had a cavity earlier this year, and had it filled, Recently it began hurting, sometimes so bad that even 3 or 4 ibuprofen wouldn't help. Well it was about the time for my regular check-up at the dentist, and so I decided to wait and tell her. Well she took X-rays of it, and it turns out to be absessed, (Sp) Which means of course I have to have a root canal. Well she sent me home with a prescription of amoxicillian (sp) This was two days ago. This morning I woke up and I can barely open my mouth. I haven't been able to eat anything except smooshed bananas. (barely able to talk also) I can open my mouth about half way, and then it just stops, and almost excruciating pain. That's all I can open it. My mom has had an absessed tooth/ root canal, and she said it has never done anything like this. Well now what do I do? My dentist won't be in until thursday, which is when the root canal is scheduled. How can I get rid of this? Please, i'm desperate!!!!!

They don't have a backup dentist. They are only in our town two days a week, the rest they are several miles from us, and the entire office is closed.

I doublt it's lock jaw. It's probably just swolen. Stick with the medication you have. It'll help with the swelling and pain. (If it hurts as much as you say, imagine what it'll be like without pain killers.) You can also use an ice pack for the swelling. Just wrap it in a towel and hold it to the sore side for 20 minutes max. Take a break with the ice pack between 20 minute increments. (sp?) Hope it helps!

[Edit] Also, I would recomend that you drink alot of water and/or eat something when you take the Ibuprofin. It can be hard of your stomache
