I'm afraid of the dentist and need some encouraging words :)?!

Question: I have a cavity and it's not like I've never been to the dentist before, but for some reason lately I've been really fearing it :( The thought of the sound of the drill and the shot in my gums haunt me.

I need some encouragement!!

The reality is that your nerves are your worst enemy in this situation. The fact is, today's dental procedures are 98% painless dental procedures. The people who experienece the most discomfort are the ones that know they have a dental problem and keep putting off having it treated. People run the most risk are those with an abcess and keep letting it get worse and worse...The greater the infection the harder it is to administer the anesthetic and achieve quick numbing. It's very unlikely you could have such an issue with a cavity. As for the sound of the drill, some offices have stero head sets for you to wear allowing you to listen to music during the procedure.....Your going to be just fine and pain free.

baby

You will be fine a cavity is not a big deal. There will be very little pain.Just calm down.

I am the same way when it comes to the dentist because of an incident when I was a child .... Let your dentist know you are apprehensive and he will take extra time in your care (at least thats what my dentist did)

Good luck!

you will be fine.. dont worry about it just do it and get it over with,, you will be glad

Modern Dentistry has improved from the old days
Now drilling is comparatively painless

A filling is the easiest thing to go through, at least for me. The dentist will freeze your gums and it will be pain free after that. The dentist can also swab a gel where she will give you the shot on your gums, so it doesn't sting as much. Get it done soon before you need a root canal on it, then an apecitomy. I just had an apecitomy and the recovery period is long.

aww
i am going tomorrow at 9:15 so i am scared too

i have neva had a cavity so i dont know what to tell u there but just thing of a happy song or fall asleep or sumething to pass the time and remember its for the best becuz u dont want a hole in there eating away at ur beautiful tooth!!

:)

In the words of Nike, 'Just Do It'.

I have the same fears as you, and I've also been to the dentists numerous times: for cavity fillings and for a root canal and crown. Now I have stalled the past year and a half, because I need more cavities filled and a root canal/crown on my other molar. Of course dental visits can be daunting at times, but remember: If you've been before, then you already know what to expect! Yeah the shots are annoying and the drill noise irritating, but if you have a good dentist, he/she will put you at ease and make your visit as comfortable as possible.

omg i was soooo scared when i went just ask for the gas i get it for root canal i even had a tooth pulled last week i was in tears just thinking of it on my way to the dentist i really couldnt stop shaking but i havent even taken the pain pills they gave me what was sore was the spot that i got the shot in and it was no big deal really just make sure you ask for the gas its great
