If I am moving to Australia in 8 days (6/4/07), would it be okay to get my wisdo!

Question:

If I am moving to Australia in 8 days (6/4/07), would it be okay to get my wisdom teeth out before I go?

I'm hoping that I can call on Tuesday, after the holiday, and then get an appointment to get them out on Wednesday, May 30th. Is this too late? I don't know that I'll be able to get dental work done while I'm in Australia, and the wisdom teeth (especially the top ones) are really impacting and moving my front teeth.

I don't want to have gross swollen cheeks or a bleeding mouth when I get to Australia though, as I'll be seeing my fiance again for the first time in 6 months!

Please advise!

Also, I guess I should point out another concern, since it might not be immediately obvious - can I be on a long-haul flight (from Austin, TX to Perth, WA - 40 hours) just days after a surgery like this? Will the pressure cause any adverse reactions?

Thanks!

Answers:

You also don't want to be in an airplane with pressure fluctuations and the possibility of bleeding. Also, we tend to think of this kind of surgery as fairly routine, but, complications do occur, some of them serious. You need to be where you can checked on with follow-ups until the doc says you can travel.
