Numbing the gums?!

Question:

Numbing the gums?

when i went to the dentist this past 2 weeks, i had my wisdom teeth removed. the first week, i pulled out my right side teeth. the week after i pulled out my left side teeth. when i had to pull the teeth on the right side the dentist only had to shoot my gum with the numbing solution once. when i went to get my left side done, the dentist shot my mouth with the solution once and my cheek and my bottom lower lip didn't get numb. so, he had to shoot my gums 3-5 times. then when i left the office, only then did my lip get numb.

why is that? i want to know why it takes longer for one side of my mouth to get numb than the other side.

Answers:

Both fellow dentists above are absolutely correct. Anatomy can be different on either side of the mouth. I have had patients myself that it has taken more than one attempt at Lidocaine injection for the nerve block to be complete.
