Can your gums hurt from overbrushing?!

Question: Or would that be a gum disease? Particularly above my front teeth under my lip.... but how would I know if there is a gum problem? I can't really afford the dentist not to mention I am scared of them, really scared. I brush 3 and 4 x a day in hopes that I never need one.

You need to do more than brush. And get over the dentist thing. There are so many dentists that are aware of that. Many are actually very gentle and sensitive and willing to do anything to help you out. You need to see a hygienist at least to keep your teeth clean. Also, do you floss? Flossing is so important, I do it everyday, and I also use mouthwash.

Also, recent research has linked some heart disease to unhealthy teeth. I think you are still young, but go ahead and take care of those teeth now, get over your little problems. Dental insurance is also readily available and there are any number of dentists who will let you pay a little at a time. Your teeth are so important.

not everyone likes dentist, but if it bleed then it clould be a gum disease , have it treated by a dentist before it get worst ..

You can actuall brush your gums away. This is call receding gum line. If happens if you brush too hard, too long, too often, or with the wrong tooth brush.

I would recommend getting a soft or medium brisstle tooth brush. One that stimulates the gums would be even better. You dont have to press the toothbrush to your teeth hard for them to get clean either, think of brushing your teeth as a message for your gums... be gental.

To begin with, improper tooth brushing can cause both gum tissue bleeding and tenderness, especially when coupled with multiple bushing's per day. You may also find that the brush your using has unnecessarily stiff bristles. Get your self a new brush with soft bristles and stay off the gum tissue when you brush. If the tenderness is still present after week you must see a health professional, either a dentists or medical doctor. Also do this, rinse your mouth after each brushing with a ten percent salt water solution and don't eat or drink anything for at least thirty minutes after rinsing....do this only if your not on a prescribed salt free diet.

yes you can certainly over abrade them. how long have u had this problem? did you check to make sure it is not a cold sore? If you are an agressive bruser you can actually cause gum recession. rinse with warm salt water should. help. If you have any swelling or throbing pain in the area, i would suggest you seek help right away. that can signal a infection and you want to treat that right away. Signs of gum problem are red inflammed gums. bleeding upon brushing, bad breath, teeth feel loose. Hope I was able to answer some of your questions.

p.s. i am a surgical assistant for a periodontist(gum specialist)

you're probably brushing too hard. You should only use soft bristle toothbrushes

yes... it happened to me...

damn..... i'll need to go to the dentist on monday...
