Does loss of teeth cause difficulty in speech?!

Question: I lost two back teeth a year ago. And since I then I have had difficulty talking sometimes. I sometimes have to try really hard to pronounce a certain word, which in turn causes me to get anxious and stutter. I just want to know if loss of teeth is the real cause of my speech difficulty or could it be my stress when i try to speak out a smooth sentence without stumbling on certain words?

Yes It affects speech to have them removed or to put in new ones, but you will adjust!! Check on havung them replaced or it will damage the other teeth! Doc W

I don't think the stuttering is related to your missing teeth.

Your loss of teeth could be causing your speech problem. When you get teeth removed, your other teeth start shifting to fill in the spaces. When those teeth start shifting, your normal bite begins to change b/c your teeth are not coming together as they did before. When you bite is off, it can cause problems including but not limited to speech and TMJ problems. Maybe your dentist recommended getting a bridge, implants, or a partial to replace those teeth that were removed so that the space would be maintained. If so, you may want to get that done.

certain teeth are needed for certain sounds, but the stuttering isn't caused by missing teeth.
Stress is the biggest reason for stuttering.
