I was exactly the same way before I got mine. People told me the same thing. I am now sixteen and I have had braces for 4 yrs. So I'm getting them off soon. When you first get them on, they are really uncomfortable because you arn't used to them. So eating hard stuff may not be good for a couple days. But you will eventually get used to them. When you go to the orthodontist, a few things they do may be a little painful, but it's not too bad. Getting them tightened only hurts for about a day, but it doesnt ever hurt me anymore. Do everything they say to do and don't miss any of your appointments. Because missing even just one appointment or not wearing rubberbands or whatever will make your braces stay on longer. So listen to what they tell you they just want you to have nice teeth! - Hope I helped.

only later on or the next day

my friends have told me that spacers hurt more than the braces. i have already had spacers and they didn't hurt too much.

Yes for some it does considering you have something pushing unnaturally against your teeth. It hurts for a while then your teeth get used to it, but when you go get the tightened the pain comes back and then subsides again.
Good luck. And its not extreme pain just an ache.

yeah not gonna lie
i have to get them AGAIN next year! grr..

They are not as painful as everyone thinks. They only ache the first few days, and then you get used to them. I have braces and some ibuprofen took care of the pain for me. It will only hurt a lot if your teeth are severely crooked and/or if you have an overbite, under bite or cross bite. There will be some slight discomfort when the orthodontist gives you a thicker wire at your next adjustment, but you will get used to the pressure within a day or two. I hope this helps and good luck!

yeah, it aches a lot. but you can get over that with a couple painkillers and just trying not to think about it much.
the end result is worth it though!

I wouldn't say that it hurts, but it does sore a bit. I've had braces on for almost 2 years now, and I just love it (except the flossing part). The fun is when you get to choose the colors of the band that go on your brackets. :)

yes they hurt.

only like the first day or so after you get them and maybe the first time you get them tightened. but its not like your going to be screaming in pain.

ok don't worry they only hurt when u try to eat the first few days when you first get them and when you get them tightened and you can still eat soft things !! like ice cream !!!
it really don't hurt
