Does it hurt....?!

Question: Im 13, male and my dentist has said i've got a crowded mouth, (small mouth+big teeth=No room) and he said ive got to get 1 or 2 teeth pulled later this year, my parents said they put gel in your mouth to numb it a bit, then they stick a needle with local anesthetic into your gum, then they remove the teeth. Im a bit worried, i've been afraid of needles my whole life, does the needle hurt even with the gel and can you feel your teeth being pulled out? I need serious answers.

i am a dentist and i have got my tooth extracted too.once the surface of your mucosa is made numb with a spray anasthesia the surface becomes totally numb. after this the initial entry of the needle does not hurt at all. its your anxiety that can lower your threshold for pain.relax and dont think too much about it. you can ask your dentist to deliver anaesthesia as slow as possible . this will reduce your feeling of discomfort to a great extent. wish you all the best and relax.

to be honest the needle hurts...but its more like....u accidently stab urself with a toothpick...doesnt really hurt
i know this because in order for me to get braces i think i had to take out like 4 or 6 teeth
it was okay and stuff but the wisdom teeth hurt like crazy....they were like perfroming surgery and stuff
but if they are not wisdom teeth...u have nothing to worry about
what i hate most however is the after feeling...the numbness kinda like makes my mouth feel huge and droopy

so yeah
dont worry itll will be fine! you can hardly feel ur teeth being pulled out and the needle is just like a poke
also...concentrate on smthg...itll be over b4 u know it

The needle doesn't hurt at all. When I got it done, I was very surprised at how easy it really is to get teeth pulled. I didn't realize what the needle was until after the procedure when I was thinking about it.
I couldn't feel it at all though. I was really easy. It's like getting a cavity drilled, but they pull the tooth out instead. But don't worry about the procedure. Although it's odd to go through, it's quick and easy and relatively painless (you feel a little pain a couple hours after and the next day, but it's nothing a Tylenol can't cure.)
Don't worry, it'll be fine!

i don't really remember what the dentist did to me to numb my teeth but it worked good. when i go it pulled out, it didn't hurt at all! i hardly felt it! :) you'll be fine, don't worry so much. if you don't want needles request gel. when your there try not to think about it close your eyes or something. it helps me. lol. i had my tooth pulled at 13 too, to get braces on.

Well, first of all, you're probaly better off not being a big mouth like me!

Look, I am the most chicken person on Earth when it comes to dentists...

I am 52. When I was your age, well dental work was almost guaranteed to be painful. And when I was 6, I went to a very mean dentist. So you have my sympathy....

And when I was 26, I had to have a dental operation, they had to take out 4 impacted wisdom teeth. And, you know, I got through that!

Now, then, I recognize the procedure they want to use on you. About a year ago, I broke a back tooth. Not fun. Hurts bad! So I went to ny dentist. They had to remove part of it, and "sculpt" the rest, so that they could (on the spot, with acrylic material) make an artificial "tooth", and attach it to my "tooth stump".

The the first thing they did is smear me with a gel. That numbed it down, and then they did give me several needles (cause this was major work) to kill the pain. And they fixed me up good.

So I can tell you from personal experience:

1) The gel does not hurt. It tastes either minty, or banana flavor.

2) They wait a minute before they use the needle. You can feel they are giving you the anesthetic, but there is no pain. I would not worry about that part.

3) They wait about 10 minutes after the needle for things to freeze up. You will not feel too much from the tooth removal.

4) Afterwards, they pack the hole in your gum with some stuff that stays in about a day, to stop any possible bleeding. The stuff then comes out, and you use warm salt water to gargle. Sometimes they give you a special stuff to swish around. They also may give you a few pain killers, after the tooth removal, so that you are not in pain, when the freezing goes away.

It sounds a lot worse than it is. Just don't take anything that thins your blood afterwards, like aspirin. Use Tylenol or some other pain reliever instead, if you have any pain.

I can tell you that in 2 or 3 days - 4 maximum you'll be feeling 100%

Hang in there! I got through it, so can you!
