Any dentists or assistants reading, please help....?!

Question: I had my second back molar pulled on thursday after my tooth broke whilst getting a root canal done. The tooth had to be extracted in several pieces so i'm assuming it was a fairly traumatic extraction. So it's day 3 and i'm still in a fair amount of pain, but nurofen is helping alot so it's not that bad. My mouth has had a pretty smelly odour coming from it and has a white film around the extraction area, but in the actual hole has little white chunky pieces in it, fibrin?. I have been very gently doing salt water rinses several times a day, but from the symptoms i have i'm wondering if it's infected or the start of dry socket. The hole seems to be getting smaller so i take it that it IS healing, i'm just surprised that the pain has gotten worse in the last 2 days, but it's not unbearable and as i said, it's nothing that nurofen won't fix.
Any advice suggesttions would be great, as i would rather not have to go back to the dentist tomorrow if it's just healing normally.

I'm a dentist.

Everything you've described sounds like normal healing, including the odor and continued discomfort.

according to your symptoms i suppose you hav dry socket.you need to visit your dentist and get treated for dry socket and you need to take anti biotits 3 times a day as well.
salt water gargling would help. there are chances that the dentist has not curetted out your infection completely so you are facing dry socket.you should ask the dentist to suture you socket after complete cleaning and curreting your socket with anti septic solutions and curettes.let me know how you feel after the above mentioned treatments.kindly email me bk on dhimantgala@yahoo.com

Well, the little gunky pieces make me think that the tooth wasn't entirely removed. My suggestion would be to contact a competitor, relate your fears and they'd likely do a consult at no charge.
