I been washing my mouth out salt water also panadol and now Im on the vodka any help is great.

Answers:

Do you know if the tooth was extracted in one piece or did your dentist have to section it? If there is something sticking out of the socket area it is most likely a root fragment and will work itself to the surface eventually, but I would hope your dentist would keep a close eye it in case she decides to go back in and clean it out. It could also be what they call a bone spicule, which is part of the bone around the tooth that is not smooth and your dentist should have or could take a bone file and smooth it down, if left the way it is that will always be prominent and sharp, if that is the case, until someone smooths it down.
Pain-wise if there is no infection in the tooth ibuprofen is your best bet. Washing your mouth with salt water is good AFTER the socket is closed. If the socket has not formed a good blood clot you could actually be washing away the blood clot with the salt water rinses giving yourself one nasty dry socket. If you don't get the right answers soon from you current dentist, find another one, or an Oral Surgeon. Going to the emergency room may be a wasted trip because they can't treat the problem they can only mask it.
