I have a cavity but my appt. is in 17 days!...?!
Question: i've had a cavity for about a week now and it only hurts SOMETIMES when cold goes onto it (not every time though) my mom couldnt get me an appt. any earlier, so I have to wait 17 more days. She wont get me another earlier one even though I keep telling her I might get a root canal. How long will it take before my cavity gets to the point when I'll have to have a root canal procedure done?? because she keeps telling me that i'm over-reacting...

you are over reacting a little bit...17 days won't make a big difference in a cavity. decay doesn't work that fast. just hold out and get it fixed when your appointment time comes around.
it takes months or even years for a cavity to get bad enough that you would need a root canal.
it'll take alot longer than just 17days for a root canal.relax and you'll be fine
I'm sure you will be fine. Just keep the cold things away from your tooth. Start using a fluoride rinse like Act restoring mouthwash. The fluoride is absorbed into the weakened tooth surface to help rebuild the enamel. Stay away from sugars especially pop.
I went through the same earlier before I had 2 teeth extractions. I called the dentist office to call me for any cancellation date so that way you can get it before 17 days however you need to be available when they call you.

for it to go to root canal mode it takes at least a year of neglect. n remember that you still need to brush it. so the toothpaste will kill some cavities, making it harder to get to the root
Cavities take a long time to develop and shallow cavities can actually repair themselves if proper care is taken- I had 2 or 3 fix themselves. When I need a filling, its usually booked a month after the initial appointment and I've never had a root canal. It takes a long time to develop to that stage.
