Question: My teeth are fairly straight, I never had braces.. I never really needed them. I would really like a retainer to help straighten them out more.. can I go to my dentist and have him give me a retainer? About how much will it cost? Thanks!!

A retainer will not straighen out your teeth more!! Retainers RETAIN, that is, to keep in place!!. If you need/want your teeth moved, then you need orthodontics.
depending on how old you are, you might not need them
when I was younger, I had a gap between my teeth and i was convinced i needed a retainer; but my dentist never said anything about it. I've never needed braces or a retainer. It turns out that my teeth just sort of fixed themselves, and now they are perfectly straight (I'm 16).
Anyway, your teeth seem fine, but it you do need them and your dentist agrees, then it really varies with cost. It might not be covered if it's a cosmetic problem. So, it really depends on your insurance (and if you even have insurance). Talk to your dentist about it (you might not even have to visit to just find out about the cost). Some people make monthly payements for orthodontic procedures to make it more affordable. It might cost thousands of dollars though.
I suggest you give your teeth some time, but still call your dentist if you're really set about it.
