Dental crowns?!
Question: can dental crowns be whitened by a dentist ? or is there a product you can buy to do this ? my crowns were fitted recently and i HATE the colour, they are not matching my existing teeth and i cannot afford to have them replaced, when i look at them in a mirror outside in natural daylight they look yellow,where as my dentist used his colour chart when making them he matched them up in his surgey indoors and they looked so different !!!

Dental crns cannot be whitened by a dentist because the material they are made out of do not lighten nor are they porous. There are different types of tooth colored crns and the materials used are usually baked and permanent. You as a customer have the right to tell the dentist that u r very unhappy w/ the colour of the crns and that you prefer a different colour. Think about it like this............you spent alllllllll of that money to have a natural looking tooth placed in your mouth and you as the consumer have the right to say "I am not satisfied w/ the work rendered. My teeth look yellow outside of this office. Can the crns be replaced?" Before the dentist cemented the crns he should have asked you if you were satisfied w/ the colour and the shape of the crns......did he do that? Did he give you a choice? Did he give you any options? Or did they just say " Okay you are scheduled to have your crns cemented today........okay.....tap on this little blue piece of paper.....now chew...........okay........oh well I'll be damn......your new teeth look so real and natural!!!! Okay we'll see you at your next 6 mth cleaning!!!" Call the office tomorrow and let the receptionist know that you want to schedule an appt. to speak w/ the dentist regarding your new crns. I bet you at that appt. he will either tell you A) "I can't redo these crns becasue once they are cemented in they are permanently in your mouth......" or B) He will say........"Well, okay.......we are going to have to take them off reimpress the area all over again and place temporaries for another two to three weeks. It's going to take about two weeks for the lab to make the new permanent crns again......I want you to go to the lab or I'll have the lab tech come in and we will decide on a colour together. I appreciate your business and time and I want tp keep you as a life long patient." Let's see what kinda dentist you are dealing with!!! LOL! Keep me posted.
you cant lighten crowns...only replace them..
The color can not be changed by bleaching. If you just had them done you should make an appointment for a consult. Take the dentist outside and show him how off the color is. Your crowns are a reflection of his work, so I'm sure he wants it to be as close to perfect as possible. (These are your permanent crowns and not temporaries, right? Because the temps are not a reflection of how your permanent crowns will look.)
If you recently had them done and they don't match, you might want to discuss this with your dentist. Usually, they are willing to redo them and make it a color that matches. If it is a new crown that is the only way to fix it. If it is several years olf, you can usually get rid of some surface stains with whitening strips/gel, but not with new ones and this only works if an old one is badly stained.
