DENTIST!!! ahhhh!?!

Question: yesterday i went to the dentist. i have 10 cavities. it took three hours to fill the right side of my mouth and i have to go back for the left side two weeks from now. After the numbing injection wore off my mouth was sore from the drilling, pulling, pinchingand poking. they gave me medicine but i dont have time to take drugs that will make me sleepy and dizzy. Is that bad? do i have to take them. I might be getting braces also...Does it hurt??? what will they be doing exactly????

Well, you don't have to take the pain medicine, however, you will then just be in pain and you mouth will ache. I don't take any type of medicine unless I am dying because I hate taking pills. I have never had braces, but honestly I have heard the horror stories from my friends. I can give you this advice, when you get braces you will need to brush allot more and not drink sodas or drinks with color because it can stain the teeth and when your braces come off you will be able to see where the braces were because they will be a different color than where the braces weren't. good luck

You can take Tylenol for the pain and gargle with warm salt-water. If you need something stronger, ask your druggist for a suggestion or call your dentist for a non-sedating prescription.

Once you get all this work done, you are likely never to have another cavity if you take care of your teeth: brush properly, floss daily. There is a little brush you can buy that looks like a tiny, skinny Christmas tree. You clip it on a holder and use it to clean the curved spaces between your teeth. My dental hygienist told me about it and gave me the holder and a couple of brushes. I'd never heard of it before.

You never have to take pain medication. The pain will diminish as time goes by and you'll be fine well before your next appointment.

I had a crown fall off. It was my very earliest one and a cavity had developed. Because of where it was, the dentist pressed what felt like a string all around the tooth to push the gum away. That hurt but he didn't offer any pain killers. It never hurts until the shot wears off. I think I took 2 Tylenol and waited it out.

You'll have to ask someone else about braces. There are all kinds.

Good luck in keeping those pearly whites.
