How can i prevent dry socket from forming in my wisdom tooth extraction site.?!

Question:

How can i prevent dry socket from forming in my wisdom tooth extraction site.?

i've just have my lower left wisdom removed today and it was a quite easy procedure and took only 2 minutes to pull out the tooth. now i am worried about dry sockets because i can not handle tooth pain anymore.
i am following all the instructions from not smoking, creating sucking or anything, and i am also taking anti-biotics. how can i see if a dry socket is forming and prevent it from happinging...

ps: when i sallow my sliva, it creates a sucking motion, is this normal or should i be easy on soallowing the sliva..

Answers:

- don't smoke or rinse your mouth vigorously, or drink through a straw for 24 hours.
- avoid alcoholic beverages or mouthwas containing alcohol for 24 hours
- do not clean the teeth next to the healing tooth socket for the rest of the day. you should, however, brush and floss your other teeth thoroughly. gently rinse your mouth afterward.
- limit strenuous activity for 24 hours after extraction. this will reduce bleeding and help the blood clot to form.
- sometimes the blood clot dow not form in the first day of two after extraction, or it forms but breaks down for some reason. the result is called osteitis or dry socket. this can be very painful and should be reported to your dentist. a dressing may be placed in the socket to protect it unitl the socket heals and to reduce any pain.

for swelling and pain:

- apply an ice bag or cold, moist cloth to your face.

cleaning your mouth:

rinse your mouth with warm salt water (half a teaspoon salt in 8 oz. glass of warm water).

** i also got my wisdom teeth pulled out this week.
