Infection after wisdom teeth removal?!

Question: I've had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled out about a week and a half ago. My right side is almost completely healed, although my gum is just a little swollen. My left side however, is not as healed. My lower gum is swollen. I can feel a throbbing pain but it's more annoying then painful. And there is a weird taste/smell in my mouth, but I just figured it was because of the surgery and all. It's not very strong, but enough to bother me. Any chance of infection? Or is just that the swelling takes time to heal? Thanks for any input.

It is normal for the gum to be a little swollen until it completely heals. The weird smell and taste is coming from the blood clot breaking down which will last a few more days, just keep brushing and rinsing either with salt water or diluted mouth wash. You can never rule out infection unless you are physically examined by a doctor. I would go back to your surgeon and have them take a look at you because of your throbbing, it never hurts to have someone take a look. With the throbbing it could be dry socket (which is uncommon this late out, but sometimes can happen) or a possibility early on-set of infection.
