Having painfull swelling in the lower cheek area six days after multiple molar extractions. Swelling is between the skin and the jaw, not the gums.

Answers:

Anytime you have a surgical procedure within the mouth, anything located nearby could suffer from infection or injury. Although this shouldn't be a likely problem, it can happen. I would hope that your dentist had given you a prescription for antibiotic to prevent infection either before or after the surgery. If you're still suffering from these symptoms, and being treated with the appropriate medications, I would call your dentist for an earlier recheck. It could be dry socket, or many other scenarios that need confirmed. If antibiotic wasn't prescribed, then shame on your dentist, as it's often necessary. Either way, if pain does not diminish, they must see you sooner than your scheduled follow-up appointment, and insisit upon it.
