Question about a 5 yr old's teeth?!

Question: sorry guys, there's a little bit of a story behind it.
my 5 year old cousin was staying with his mom when he was a baby, and he was neglected, so all of his teeth rotted. when my cousin (his dad) got custody of him when he was 3 1/2 and took him to the dentist, he had to have almost all of his front teeth pulled...they still haven't grown back, and we cant get ahold of his mom to ask if they already fell out before. he's taking him to the dentist a week from today, but he just wants to know if this is normal or not for his child's teeth to grow back so slow, or if this has caused permanent damage? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Teeth don't grow in like finger nails... there is a pattern and time line for when they should come in.

Children start to lose their teeth around age 5-6 all the way up to age 12... and the adult teeth come in behind them (normally).

Here's a chart to help understand when to expect to see the teeth pop through... (give or take a year for each)

hmm when i was growing up i never brushed my teeth i had half my teeth removed yes its normal but i dont no if tht long period of time is tht's quite strange tht it would take tht long im really not sure but i think it took about a year or two for all my teeth to come back correctly so yea thts all i got sorry i fell bad for him good luck =)

I cannot tell you whether or not your cousin's teeth were permanently damaged from the decay and or having them extracted, but it is normal for secondary teeth to not have grow in at his age. I myself did not lose a tooth until I was six and a half, my son did not lose any until he was about eight. Our family does have a pattern of late arrival of teeth, but it is normal for teeth to not have arrived at five years old.

The dentist will take x-rays which hopefully will show a nice set of teeth waiting for their time to erupt. I am sorry that the little guy had to have such a rough start, but it sounds like his life has turned around.

The dentist that removed them should know wether he removed baby or permenant teeth
