Oooh, I feel your pain! :(
My biggest piece of advice: Do EVERYTHING they tell you. It WILL probably be a pain in the butt, but if you do /everything/ they tell you, your braces will be off quicker.
Second, take Tylenol or some pain killer BEFORE you go to the orthodontist. That way, less pain for when they are tightened, or put on.
Third, DO NOT chew sticky stuff. It's rather up to you for things like popcorn or hard candies, but things like starburst are a BIG no-no. I chewed popcorn, chewed on ice, etc with my braces, but I'd actually advise against it.
Fourth, bring something with a really strong taste for after your appointment. The taste of metal in your mouth is really nasty.
I wish I had an actual website to link you to, but all I can give is tips from my own experience unfortunately. I hope your braces are less painful than mine were, and that you get them off in less than a year. (Believe me, one year is actually a really short time)

go with a friend to see what color would look the best on you

Eat a lot before you get them, you won't be able to eat much after you have them for awhile.

They'll hurt for a few days, but they'll become natural with time. A week, tops.

Well, your orthodontist should tell you everything you need to know.

but don't be worried!! they aren't that bad. They hurt for about a week when you first get them but it gets better! eat soft foods

sooner or later you will get used to them then they won't be a problem

i had braces for 3 years. dont be afraid. they hurt a little at first but after a while you dont even feel em. and trust me the end result is worth it :)

stock up on Jell-O,

trust me

Stop freaking out, there is no need cause its not bad

Ya... They're not too bad. You get used to them after a few days. And from my experience, they don't really hurt in the first few days like people say they do.

well my friend has braces and she said when she got it her mouth was sore fore a week!

Don't Panic in the future you will have straighter teeth. And your going to feel better about your self.I been there and I got straight teeth!

don't worry ..i had braces and your mouth just feels a little sore atfer you get them on but after about three days i started getting used to them

take tylenol or advil about an hour before yo go in. then every 4 to 6 hours for the next 2 or 3 days. hope you like mashed potatoes and jello!

i always went woith black so my teeth looked really white and always always always make sure your constintly making sure there is no food in them cause you don't want to give people a reason to look notice them! good luck

just got mine tightened today. just make sure you put a lot of chapstick on before you go to the ortho because they're gonna stretch out your lips and they'll get all crusty and might start bleedin if you don't put chapstick on. don't sweat it though. i've had my braces for over a year and it's no big deal now. just remember to stay calm and let them know if your braces are bothering you. also, when i first got my braces, i swore i'd never use wax cus i thought it was disgusting. then, i started to use it and it helped a LOT. so, try that. good luck!

take a few painkillersbefore you go.
they can hurt for a few days and maybe rub on ur gums a bit, but you will get used to them quite quick. i wore them for years. the best thing i was given by my dentist was like putty to put over any sharp bits.
good luck, your teeth will be beautifully straight when ur done x

Braces will hurt for the first couple of days, but believe me, it's worth it. you should eat hot foods like supz and cold shredded ice. get a water pick, they are around 60.00-70.00 they help get the food out of the places you can't brush.

theres nothing to worry about
you will be a little sore after they tighten them up each time, but you just have to watch was you eat and brush often...you can even change the color of you elastics each time to experiment...i still have mine on, i don't even notice them..not like when i first had them put on
also if you happen to get a sore in your mouth you can use the wax they give you to prevent, or use anbesol to numb the area...it will take awhile for your mouth to get used to the idea...all in all-no big deal!

Quit freaking missy, I said you'll be fine.

IT only hurts the first day. Brush your teeth constantly, they get gross. Also, you can eat like peanut butter. iT never actually does anything bad. Just stay away from like...caramel, or mike and ikes. BAsically anything else is okay. IF it hurts on the first day, then instead of eating full apples (for example) cut them up. You will cut your mouth every once in a while. So you have to get plenty of wax. Also, your lip will feel like its pushed up.

Take advil BEFORE the appointment it makes your teeth very sore after getting them on, try clear if you dont want them to be too noticeable, you will definetly want something like ice cream afterwards because you will be too sore to chew and ALWAYS remember to ask a friend or go look to see if you have anything stuck in your braces after you eat. Good Luck!

yeah this is how its going to work I have mine on right now I've had them for 5 months. At first your going to feel wired and kinda normal. Eat anything before and after cause once you have them on for more than 4 or 5 hours their going to start hurting you can eat potatoes and soup for the next couple of day you can put wax and but these little tube thing for braces that stop the pain. What ever you do don't try to be brave don't eat food you know your not suppose to eat later on the day your going to regret it.And it helps to eat cold things. Every time you get a new wire or you get them tighten your going to have to go through it all again.

just think about the bright side in a couple of months your teeth are going to be straight and better

best wishes and their not that bad.

The worst parts are:

- pain and tenderness of gums and teeth immediately after your appointment
- metal rubbing the inside of your cheek

Take an Advil or Alleve before your appointment to help with the pain .... it will usually go away or at least be bearable later in the day or the next day by the latest

Get some wax from any drug store and put it on the metal that rubs.

hey.! dont worry theyll hurt only for a few days then youll be able to eat after the second day and then gradually youll get used to em. when you feel you are able to eat but still have some pain tyr eating cuz it help the pain go away more. soon after that youll get used to them and you may be in some pain when you get them tightened and/r get rubber bands. if you want more info try going to google and type in braces and there should be many links where they will give you information and maybe even a color picker to preview what color you'd like to pick. your ortho. should also give you a packet about the braces and what foods you should and should not eat. also you should try and clean your teeth after every meal with the things they gave to insure that you have clean teeth when they get taken off. and to get all the food that gets tuck in the braces out. also you should try and follow instructions about not eating the very chewy candies i.e. starbursts, caramel, etc. those will break brackets and can extend your treatment. and try not to get clear braces cuz those could get dirty easily from food and will remain yellow for a month even if you do a good job on cleaning your teeth. floss every night to get rid of plaque so you dont have white marks on your teeth afterwards and when yure done w/ your treatment wear your retainer. a girl i know didnt wear hers and she had to get them again. and its a waste of money too, especially for your parents.

that is a link where they'll give all answers to your questions believe me.!

Good luck.!

I loved my braces! You should ask your dentist to show you how you should BRUSH YOUR BRACES, since it is different then regular brushing. I found out the hard way. My gums got really swollen and hurt. The dental assistant showed me how I should brush since I wasn't showed how to at first. Once I started brushing the way she it got better and wasn't swollen anymore, that took probably a month though. A lot of my friends experienced the same problem, and their dentist didn't show them how to brush either. You have to brush at an angle. They also make special tooth brushes for braces too. They have 3 sides instead of one like a regular tooth brush. Make sure you FLOSS every night. STOCK UP ON WAX. You can find it in the dental section in the grocery store. I would put it on my braces at night cuz while the inside of your mouth is getting use to it WILL get CUT UP! After they come off WEAR YOUR RETAINER just like the dentist tells you too. I had to get them twice cuz I didn't wear it right the first time. Good luck with your brace and HAVE FUN with them. I loved getting different color bands.

i got braces in december and when i got them on they didnt hurt but they just didnt match up well so it was hard to chew. the second day they hurt real bad so i just didnt eat. than after about 5 days i could eat like a hotdog and stuff. after a week youll be fine. it scrapes the inside of your mouth the first 2 weeks so i suggest wax and swishing with salt water while the skin is peeled off on your cheeks cause it helps alot. take advil it works. youll be fine.

Eat popcorn, gum with sugar in it, chew ice, and anything else that sticks to your teeth within the next few days. When you get them, it'll hurt at first because you'll feel your teeth moving. Be prepared. Take 2 ibuprofen about 45 minutes before you go. Have some more available. Ask about getting some wax. After everything is on, make sure nothing is sticking out poking or scratching you. Colors are easy to decide, whatever color(s) you personally like. I just got mine off this summer after 2 1/2 years, and now I wear a retainer. Don't worry about it too much, you'll be fine. And in the end, you'll come out with amazingly straight, gorgeous teeth! Good luck and hope this helps! =)
