What exactly are veneers and are they expensive in the UK? How long does it take!

Question: Some of the advice and responses you have received are good and others are in error. There are in fact two prosthetic dental appliances in which the terminology, "Veneer" , accurately applies. The first is a thin porcelain facing created of Porcelain designed to cover the facial surface of a front tooth. The natural tooth may have it's shape and thickness altered on the facial side depending on the desired appearance goal. In many cases all six front teeth are "Veneered" to achieve both a better appearance and better color. They can last several years depending on hygienic care the patients gives them. Cost varies in accordance with where you live. In US dollars you can expect to pay between $250 and $500 each.

The second type of "Veneer" is when a natural tooth is ground down to a stump and a complete metal covering of thin metal is designed to cover the stump and the metal face and chewing surface is then covered with Porcelain i.e. a Veneer. The cost in US dollars will be between $650 and $950 per tooth. While it's possible to create an entire crown out of Porcelain, calling it a Veneer is improper terminology. Life expectancy of a "Veneer Crown" can be for as long as you live.

veneers are when your own teeth are ground down to almost nothing and then capped with veneers - porclain false teeth. Most celebrities have them and to be honest, they can look too false. Keep your own teeth but if you feel you need some work, go and see a cosmetic dentist who can offer you good advice and treatment. Personally, I have trays made for me - like gum shields made specically for you where you put bleach in and they whiten your teeth - costs between
