My dentist said put something cold on it & WALK it off---it actually worked.(well like, instead of 8 hrs numb, it was like 3 hrs)
..however, my new dentist knows how sensitive I am to novocaine, & he does it perfectly, where the numbness goes away w/in an hour, NOT like 6-8 hrs I have endured in the past. His technique is to inject it slowly...tell your dentist--you too, may be overly sensitive to the novocaine.
nibble on the numb part of your gum. it stimulates the nerves

no it goes away by itself.. novocaine is a tricky substance
Select the area of greatest numbness. Then select the nearest balpine hammer. You do the rest.

It takes time. You can't speed it up, just relax it should only last about another hour or so.
