Is it very abnormal to grow new wisdom teeth after the old ones have been extrac!

Question:

Is it very abnormal to grow new wisdom teeth after the old ones have been extracted?

This happened to me. The dentist I was seeing at the time just laughed. Another dentist, a few years later, said it was very unusual though it happens sometimes. If it happened with wisdom teeth, could your other teeth grow again after the old ones have been extracted, or would this be much more unusual or even unheard-of? (I'm talking about adult teeth, of course.) I would appreciate an opinion from someone practising or studying dentistry. Thanks.

In response to Cyberant, no it was my mouth and they definitely reappeared, all four of them, after the others had been extracted and in exactly the same place. I'm sure the dental records still exist, though it was a long time ago and I'm not sure if the dentist is still practicing.

Having said that, as wisdom teeth they aren't of particular use to me and I would be much more interested in re-growing a few others! Also, I still had some trouble with the new ones, though nothing like as much trouble as the ones I had out.

Answers:

Yes, it is very unusual, and even unheard of.

You can have extra wisdom teeth, but they do not grow or just appear after you extract your four regular wisdom teeth. (http://www.studiodentaire.com/en/treatme...

They might have been there already, but the dentist didn't see them on the x-ray.
