Retainer???!

Retainer???

I got a retainers today from my ortho. But he didnt give me instructions on when to wear it and what to clean it with. Me being dumb I forgot to ask. I got top and bottom retainers. What should I clean them with? I'll call the ortho tomorrow about when to wear them. I think it he will say all the time. Except when I eat or brush my teeth. Any other tips for retainers will be appreciated. Thanx!

Teeth that have been moved have a tendency to migrate back to where they were originally. Retainers after fixed treatment ,or braces, are used for this purpose. Ideally your retainers should be worn 24-7, except when eating. Since this is not entirely realistic. Wear them as often as possible , if you're sitting around the houe , wear your retainers, the more you wear them the more you will get used to having them in. If they start to feel too tight or don't fit as well as they do now you are not wearing them enough and your teeth are beginning to shift. If you simply cannot wear them during the day, wear them while sleeping. This will assure a solid eight hour stretch which should be enough to keep things where they belong. When you brush your teeth, brush your retainers using toothpaste and cold water. When not wearing your retainers keep them in the case your Doctor gave you, this will help in protecting as well locating them. Also keep them out of reach of your pets , dogs love to chew on them as they smell like their owner. Don't lose them new ones are expensive.
