It can be scary having gas for the first time (I was when I was 6 never even having been to a dentist before). Actually it really isn't that bad - I got to like it! They put this rubber mask on your nose and you get this sickly sweet pong (if its nitrous oxide at any rate) and within a few seconds everything becomes a blur. You can't feel anything that is being done to you and not aware what is going on anyway. It's quite a nice sensation really if you allow yourself to enjoy it and are not too scared. Then it's over practically as soon as it starts. Some people say they hear buzzing/clanging, and others feel a bit nauseous after. I didn't get either. I think the effects are different on different people. You will prob find that having gas is the least of your probs with a wisdom teeth extraction!

Sometimes wisdom teeth are quite straightforward and like a normal extraction sometimes it is extremely prolonged and painful and for many people it is better to have a general anasthetic. Never had it IV so can't comment.

I only took one out so far and it wasn't bad. They just numbed me too. IT literally took like 5 minutes to get it out and clean you. You bleed a lot, but for me, the pain was really nothing but soreness.
I heard from a friend who took out more than one that it is soreness for a long time and they give you painkillers.

i actually just got my top 2 wisom teeth out today and my 2 bottom back teeth. I remember nothing after getting the iv..prob less than a min after they put the iv in, i was out and all i remember was waking up...it wasnt near as bad as i expected..the only things that bothered me was the novacaine(which still hasnt worn off and my appt was at 1 and its now almost 10:30 ha) and the bleeding..its been a little sore but they give u pain killers and that helps. i was terrified, but its honestly nothing!

I was pregnant when I got mine out, and I was awake. It wasn't bad. Just a little pressure.

Also I've been sedated a dozen times for other things. It's a little weird, you close your eyes then they're done and you're awake. You'll have a pinch when they put the IV in and some pain when you wake up.

Good luck and try not to stress.

Why you need to have them extracted soon? Leave them alone if they're not given you problems. Who said that in order to get them out you will be put to sleep? I had mine extracted long time ago, and as far as I know, the dentist would put a little Novocain (some type of anesthesia)using a syringe beneath each teeth which you won't feel then you wait for 10-20 minutes till you feel num, and then as the dentist pulls the teeth out you won't feel it, you bleed a little and you have to change that piece of cotton you
