Dentist scam?!

Question:

Dentist scam?

I went in for a dental check-up, since I hadn't been there in about 4 yrs.

They said they would give me a "Comprehensive Oral Exam". So the dentist looked at my teeth, counted them, checked the enamel, and then did a series of x-rays. Then the sent me home. I got a bill in the mail charging me extra for the x-rays, so I have two charges 1. Comprehensive Oral Exam 2. X-rays

I never requested the x-rays and no one said they were additional or optional. I called in and they put me on hold several times, I explained my problem w/ the bill and they said they needed to do x-rays to get a complete 'view' of the teeth. I totally understand, but I didn't request them.I have never seen the x-rays, he said I'd have to come back for that.

Should I contest the charge in writing? I want to just pay for the comprehensive oral exam.

The doctor and dental hygenist both knew I did NOT have dental insurance. Still, it was presented as ONE exam...

I am not a cheap skate, I just really truly do not feel I was not informed about my dental choices.

Answers:

I would not say it's a scam, maybe a misunderstanding.

An exam without x-rays would not be complete.

If you want you can suggest to the office to advice their patients that there is an extra cost for the x-rays. But it is better to be calm and kind when you make that recommendation, and believe me, they will take you more seriously.
