Bottom retainer question. Help! Do you get used to it..?!

Question: So I got my braces off last week.
And yesterday I got my retainers.
I know I am going to where them as much as they tell me to.

but.
the bottom ones are the only ones that bother me.
they get in the way of my tongue
and hurt my tongue
and are just uncomfortable

i am just wondering if you EVER get used to wearing retainers?
and like how long did it take you?

like seriously the bottom ones are SOOO annoying.
i have the regular metal ones
not the clear ones.

HELP!

Hi, the rule is that when you put anything in your mouth the mouth reacts in three predictable manners.(1)..Because you have put something foreign in your mouth it thinks it's something to eat and immediately you will find saliva flowing as a help to digest what ever it is your going to eat....However, in time the mouth will accept the object as something that is suppose to be there and the excess saliva will stop. This may take several days to accomplish. (2)..Because you do not eat the object right away, the tongue and cheeks begin an exploration to determine if it's suppose to be there. and (3)...With time the saliva flow stops, the exploration stops and finally your mouth accepts the object. Now, if you continue to have pain and soreness you need to see your dentist as the retainer should not cause continuous discomfort regardless of the material it's created from.

i have a bottom one that is cemented in so if it bothers u to much u could maybe ask ur orthodontist if u can get one cemented in

I had a retainer in junior school because my bottom teeth over - lapped my top ones but now the're really nice with a good shape. Yes, you should get used to them, because it took me about a month to get used to mine because I had to take them out when ever i ate something and then put them back in then washing it etc. Anyway, you should

I'm afraid not

when you get your braces off your teeth maybe moved a little so you retainer put it back in place so your gum hold your teeth in the right spot
