Owie, owie! Ouch ouch!!!!!!?!

Question: I hurt!!!!!

Hubby and I both are in pain. We went to the dentist to get a deep clean & plus I had to get some cavities filled. How can we stop the pain? How long will it last?

Also, my cavities were BAD. They said if I start hurting, that I will need a root canal. They almost had to give me an emergency root canal. If I do have one, how bad is that pain? how long will that hurt for?

if your dentist knows what he is doing(or if you go to a specialist)it wont hurt at all. It will just be sore afterwords near the injection site. as for the pain...ibruprophin, as in advil or motrin works best. take 3- 200mg advil (= 600 mg of perscription strength ibruprophin.)

For the pain, you need an anti-inflammatory because your gums are inflammed. Eat some food, then take four ibuprofen 200mg tablets. Make sure you eat as this is prescription strength ibuprofen and can give you an ulcer if you don't. Take the ibuprofen every six hours and stick to it because each dose builds off of one another. This will help with the inflammation and swelling. Other than that you would have to have the dentist prescribe some vicodin or percocet. Hope this helps, stay healthy.

I didn't have that much discomfort after my one and only deep cleaning. However, be diligent about your dental care so you don't need gum transplants - that sounds really painful. Root canals are no big deal; they take longer than a filling but I've never had any painful reaction to one. However, I have had a failed root canal (google this) and it was slightly to very painful from the time I had the second root canal done on the same tooth. I eventually had a third root canal on it, then a surgery that peeled back the gums, drilled through the bone, removed the root of the tooth, put a filling on the root, and sewed everything back up - too bad that didn't help either. I eventually had the tooth pulled and an implant placed; however, due to an underlying medical condition I'm left with chronic dental pain; I'm hoping this might get better over time, say in the next 10 years or so! If you have a great deal of pain from minor procedures such as you've described, you can ask for a few pain pills; you might also swish with warm salt water, as this could be soothing.

I literally had a root canal tonight, like a few hours ago.
It's not to horrible, I thought it would be much worse.

I've heard that the shot to numb you is the worse part, but it really wasn't that bad. I thought the worst part was when the dentist put the dam on me, and it think that was partly because of the dentist ,and the fact that I have tiny mouth.

But yeah, the pain isn't to bad. It does take a long time though. It took like 2 1/2 hours. I got home from the dentist about 2 hours ago and I'm hardly in any pain.

It's not nearly as bad as I expected.
