Going to the oral surgeon?!

Question: I have to go to the oral surgeon on monday to get 3 teeth pulled. I hate going, and I so scared. My heart races, and my hands get sweaty. I am to scared to get IV sedation, and can't do the laughing gas. The last time I went to get my teeth pulled the idiot went and injected into the vein accidentally and my vision in my left eye doubled and my face turned pale on that side. Needless to say, that didn't help my fear and I left the office after that. I am going to a different oral surgeon on monday, but I am afraid that it's going to happen again. How do I stop being such a baby with this crap???

Don't keep telling yourself you are going to the dentist, put it out of your mind until the time comes that you need to go. Otherwise you will just make yourself more and more anxious.
Somtimes I find it easier to relax when I am listening to my fave music. Take your ipod/mp3 player with you and i am sure your dentist wont mind you listening to it while he does the work, just make sure you don't have it too loud so you can still hear the dentist speak to you.

Other than that, relax, the chances of this dentist doing the same as your last are very very slim. He/She will be very competent at their job and will be doing their best to make you as comfortable as possible.

Just try to relax, not much else you can do!! Not all surgeons will be the same as the first wacko you went to..

Sorry that happened to you the first time that sounds traumatizing..

I'm not sure if it would work with the privacy laws, but you might call and ask for the numbers of people that have had surgery there and get their opinions of the surgeon.

If not, google the surgeon and see what comes up online.

I had a bad experience with oral surgery a few years ago; my anaesthecian didn't give me enough and I passed out toward the end of surgery from stress.

Anyhow, I really suggest googling the surgeon.

Dude, getting put under is the best thing in the world, and the chances of that same thing happening again is highly unlikely. Right after they wake you up and you're all drugged up, best time, but then after the meds wear off that kinda sucks.

Just think about the pain you'll go through if you leave those problem teeth in... that would suck!

I get like this quite often even sometimes just for a check up but don't worry, try to relaxa and calm down. If you don't think and close your eyes the pain will be over and done with quickly. I have a feeling i will need to go to the dentist soon....gulp!
Good Luck!
