Could a 14 year old girl get her teeth filed or reshaped?!

Question: I take really good care of my teeth, no cavities I brush and floss everyday. My two front teeth are longer than the rest and I was wondering if a cosmetic dentist would file or reshape my teeth just so they are more even. I really want it done! Only answers from people who really know what they are talking about not people who are just assuming. Thank you :)

Quick and easy answer is Yes, you can get it done. My gf got it done when she was your age.

The long answer is Yes, but it depends on how much.

Our teeth has nerves in them. When you cut or trim your teeth these nerve get close to the outside world to cause sensitivity. At your age, the nerve is really big comparative to someone... like my gf who is 30. The nerve in our teeth grows smaller as we age. So when trimming the dentist needs to very careful not to get it close to the nerve. If he does, then you'll need a root canal, which isn't fun.

However, if they're long about 2-3 mm, you'll be fine to trim them.

Another problem is if you need braces in the future and your front two teeth need to be moved. Trimming now will make your smile look good now, however, if you need to move your teeth later, the teeth will look funny again. You follow me? You may to trim them again later or get some veeners or another cosmetic procedure.

If I'm making this sound too complicated, I sorry. But bottom line is 2-3mm now is totally fine. But remember that your smile will change slightly in the next 2-3 years, and who knows what type of things you'll need then.

Take care.

why not?

Yeah, sure. No reason why not.

yes you probably could. but i dont think you should, thats one of the things that makes you unique. Why would you want to change that? You're beautiful the way you are. But I guess if you're not comfortable with it, do whatever makes you happy.

Well the two front teeth (as well as the canines) are supposed to be slightly longer than the rest. But if they're too much longer, it might be because they're sticking out of your gum too much, not because they're actually long. Braces would fix that by pushing them back into your gum. But if your front teeth are actually too long, then yea they would need to be filed down. Ask your dentist or an orthodontist to find out which one it is.

Forget it filling is ok if decay but not grinding on the teeth for asthetics at this age Doc W
