What is wrong with my teeth??!

Question: I had great teeth for the longest time, always got compliments - esp. after I got my braces off yearsss ago. I'm now 20 and my front tooth randomly chipped a few months ago which is minorly to everyone else but a huge chip to me.. then I noticed the front tooth next to it starting to get rugged on the bottom.. (not straight, more like a mountain on the bottom of the tooth..less of a chip and more of a wearing away i suppose) then i reliezed recently that this is affecting the teeth directly underneath ..kind of like a puzzle piece..the roughness from the top teeth is digging into the bottom teeth

i'm really upset because i had great teeth and a great smile and i'm ALWAYS laughing/smiling and i don't have health insurance

what can i do? what could have caused this? could it have possibly been whitening my teeth in the past?

i have 2 theories: first, teeth do have a natural tendency to move over time- especially the front teeth. front teeth are small to begin with and are also sitting in a very thin part of the jawbone. these two factors allow the teeth to shift some throughout our lifetimes. the slightest shift in your teeth obviously changes the way your teeth meet together when you bite and chew. you may be wearing down your teeth differently now than you did in the past because of some movement. or, my second theory is that you may have developed a tendency- or habit - of clenching or grinding your teeth. it's common for people to do while sleeping. this can also cause your teeth to wear and/or chip. save up some money and have your bite evaluated by a dentist. if you are concerned about keeping your smile looking good, you should prioritize seeing your dentist at some point -with or without insurance. prevention is the best way to keep your teeth healthy! best wishes!

It is really hard to make an accurate diagnosis from what your saying, it could be you grind your teeth at night which caused the chip I know i chipped off my canine by grinding(which is involuntary) So i had to get a night guard to keep my teeth seperated. That may or may not be your case.

Or if could be your *bite* has gotten of track, so your teeth dont settle where they should. I have heard whitening damages your teeth, there are many things that are harmful to teeth. Coffee and soda are good examples. I would see a dentist about getting a line of credit, then you can make payments. That is if you dont have the money up front to pay, i know dentists are expensive.

If your credit isnt good enough to get approved try getting a co signer. Dont be Vain, just remember by the time your old those teeth wont look so good. unless you have thousands of dollars to put into your teeth. I hope i have been helpful

I agree with the above statement. I also started grinding my teeth at night when sleeping. I didn't get a mouth guard though i stop after a couple weeks but the damage has been done. The dentist recommended more calcium in the diet because i really don't drink milk or eat cheese like that. Everybody is different so the dentist is the best to ask.
