Asleep in the dentist's chair?!

Question:

Asleep in the dentist's chair?

My 4 y.o. apparently fell asleep in the dentist's chair yesterday, 5 min after the numbing agent was given to him. This is totally uncharacteristic, he does not nap and was not overtired. This is his third time with an anesthetic in the past year and has never had a reaction, but was very difficult to rouse for several minutes. Any ideas?

Answers:

Your dentist should have mentioned something at the time if it was in any bit peculiar to him/her. They probably just gave your child a little too much.

Another possibility, not very probable, is that your child might be extremely scared of the dentist, and that combined with the anesthetics caused your child to feint, no big deal, I'd try talking with your child to see how they felt about the trip to the "tooth doctor" yesterday.
