The cement is a little sour tasting, but that is the worst of it. Then they will attach a wire from the bands to the brackets with tiny rubber bands. It does not hurt to have braces put on, but several hours later your teeth will be a little sore from the pressure of the wire. Your cheeks and lip will also need a little time to adjust to the braces rubbing against them. The orthodontist will give you some wax and show you how to use it to relieve any sore spots. you should go get a appt. with a orthodontist they usually give a free consult, i used to work in the dental field for over 13 yrs, and igot braces, it made brushing andflossig easy! i foolowed directions andavoided certain foods and did great and love the end results. lets just say wheni smile i don't cover my smile. i just grin to grin. call 1800 dentist to start ask them for a orthodontist that offers financing and a free consult sometimes theywill take free records and then show you later in a follow up appt. try it you have nothing to lose.
WELL THEY ACTUALLY DONT HURT AT ALL THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. tHEY ONLY HURT FOR THE FIRST FEW 3 DAYS BUT WITH SOME TYLENOL YOU WILL BE FINE, OR ANY PAIN KILLER WILL WORK TOO.
tHE ONLY THING THAT MIGHT HURT IS THE SPACERS THOSE ARE A PAIN WHILE THEY ARE PUTTING ON BUT YOU WILL BE FINE!

It took me about 35 mins to get my braces on. THe brackets are glued to your teeth and then the wires are put in, its relatively quick and completely pain free.
When you get them put on, it will not hurt and all but as time goes on after maybe 30 mins or so the pain will gradually start to set in. My teeth hurt me constantly for 4 days, they stopped after that but i couldnt bite into things like bread, pizza, or anything actually. Brushing the first week was also painful, just be gentle on your teeth. Take tylenol or advil if the pain is unbearable for you. Its not that bad, yeah it hurts but its nothing to be worried about. Also, i never ate jello, soup, or anything like that. I stuck to softer foods like potatoes, noodles, rice, etc. they were very easy to eat, you dont have to go on an all liquid diet but you should aviod firm foods.
