I need help with a tooth I just got extracted PLEASE??!

Question: HI, I just got a tooth pulled that was really only a half a tooth on Wednesday. It broke 3 times when my dentist was getting it out and it hurt like hell. It took over 24 hours for the bleeding to finally stop. A teabag finally did the trick. My cheek is still swollen like a golf ball since the day I got it out. I am also numb in a area covering about 3 or 4 quarters. My breath stinks (eww I know), and I still have a copper taste in my mouth. Is all this normal, or there a reason I 'm having these problems?? I have never had so much pain with a extracted tooth before. I have to take like 2 vicodin at a time sometimes every 3 hours or so just to keep the pain, down some...I can't take it. Also I was wondering what is the time frame for when dry socket can occur, and how long after the tooth is extracted do you lose the blood clot naturally? Thanks for reading, and any help/advice you may have.

i don't think you have to worry. your tooth was probably impacted and they had to break it to get it out which means they had to put a lot of pressure on that area. so it would hurt a whole lot more than normal. i have had 13 teeth removed 5 of them by the doctor. the first one was fine because they didn't have to break it or anything but my four wisdom teeth were all still under the gums and they had to break all of those to get them out. those def. hurt a lot more. my face was swollen for a good one to two weeks after. three to four days after is when the most swelling will take place. brushing your teeth will be harder too and there is probably still a tiny bit of blood which would explain the copper taste and the bad breath. hope this helped.

Might be infected or since he had a difficult time getting it out, you are very bruised in that area. Best thing to do is call his answering service and let him know what is going on. Good Luck.

PS you could put ice on the swollen area to help with the pain and swelling.

well,u could take ib profen for the swelling and ice, the taste and smell are common, u prob have something small of a food particle in it.if u have a squirt bottle or syringe, fill w water and squirt in the hole.u will find that it will clean out the smell, and yes it sounds as if u have a dry socket.i had that 2 times.VERY painful.u need to get a call to your dentist.

Hi,

You have all of the signs and symptoms of an infection r/t your recent tooth extraction. I am a nurse, you need to call your dentists' emergency number and make an appointment to see him asap. If he cant see you right away, then you should go to the emergency room, they will at least address the pain issue you are experiencing, they should also prescribe some antibiotics for the infection, until you can get in to see your dentist. The swelling/edema is what is causing the pain, its your bodies way of fighting off the infection.

Good luck, I hope that helps.
