Roots of my teeth protruding through bottom of gums?!


Question: under my tongue, at the very bottom of my gums i can feel some hard bumps. Some of them have been there for over ten years and some are newer. What is causeing the roots to stick out like that?

If the bumps are bilateral meaning on both sides , and are alonside the bicuspids- the lower teeth next to the eye teeth but before the molars i would say they are tori- or excess bone that forms in about 25 percent of the population and nothing to worry about. Some people also get one in the roof of their mouth. They can continue to grow and are usually never a problem. They start around 15 years of age and are usually hereditary- a parent usually has them too. No big deal- but always check with your dentist to verify this.

i have those. dentist never commented on them so i never asked. don't think they're anything to worry about
