Is it possible to listen to radio stations with my braces?!

Question: I know its rare to pick up radio signal with braces, but could I put in something like paperclips to act as an antenna and plug in speakers in between my braces to produce the sound???????

Well, you might be surprised to learn that this sort of thing does happen, but it's rare and you'd need to live close to the transmitting antenna for it to work. And if that were the case, you'd probably be having problems with the radio station breaking into other things too, such as telephones (even the wired kind), intercoms,.. basically anything with an audio amplifier in it.

Essentially what can happen is that a part of of the metal work in your braces acts as a weak rectifier for AM radio broadcasts (it wouldn't work for FM). And these currents, under extreme circumstances, can cause the metal to vibrate. and emit some small amount of sound. It would probably sound distorted too.

Most people reading this are too young to remember that there is a type of radio that doesn't need batteries. You connect one wire to a ground (cold water pipe, for example) and then plug in a headphone. This device could tune in nearby radio stations. Here's one I found:

In any case, braces can act similarly, though not nearly as well.

ROFL! Thanks for the laugh. You could have a pleasant distraction during class if you figure it out. :)

So, with listening to radio stations with your braces, I would have to assume that your favourite type of music is metal?????
