Why due they say not to spit or drink through a straw after pulling a wisdom tooth?
I just had my first tooth pulled and that's what my dentist told me.

Because if you spit or drink through a straw, you just might spit or suck the blood clot out of the extraction site.
The blood clot protects the extraction site. If you lose the blood clot, bare bone becomes exposed to your oral cavity and it will HURT. It is a condition called a "dry socket" which you will want to avoid.
