I've had a severe toothache for 4 or 5 days, what can i do to get a full nig!

Question: I've had about 3 or 4 hours of sleep in the past 3 days
I have an appointment on monday after school but i desperately need some sleep
The pain started in a bottom molar but after i accidentally hit my top molar right above it with the back of my electric toothbrush when brushing my teeth (im a clutz i know) the top one has hurt worse then the bottom, its been the worst pain i've ever experienced, what else can i do to either make the pain go away or at least help me sleep for more then an hour until i can get to the dentist
i've tried:
swooshing cold water on the area but that only last a few minutes
maximum oragel but for some reason it stung instead of numbed, although my tongue was plenty numbed
chewing on a water soaked rag but it hurt to chew so the pain was worse
as of right now im taking a 800mg motrin every 6 hours and thats sort of helping but not at night

Is there anything else i can do to get a better nights sleep?

I'm glad you have an appt. The pain always seems to be worse at night. I've had many SEVERE toothaches, too. Keep taking the pain meds and try sleeping with lots of pillows so your head is elavated. That helps with blood pressure around the tooth. Also, try brushing your teeth gently.....I don't know why, but it seemed to help me. Another thing that helped with mine was taking a washcloth and getting it pretty warm with water and holding it against my jaw where the pain was. Heat seemed to help more than cold. If you get the baby orajel, it seemed to help more than the extra strength for adults.....again, I don't know why, but it did. You can also try crushing up an aspirin and putting it directly on the place that hurts. I know that sounds yuck, but it helps. All of these things come from experience and I hope it helps. I hope you feel better soon......I know how bad it can be.

You should be able to safely take more Motrin. 800 mg is about 4 talblets, I've taken 6 at one time before. You could always call your doctors office and they will advise you how much is safe to take.

I know your full of motrin now, but if I were you, I'd grab a bottle of southern comfort, and some sweet tea, and just get sh*t faced. You'll forget about the pain, but I guess you'll be in worse shape tomorrow with a hangover. :(

for now you could either stick with the motrin or another medication or you could try another brand of toothache relief and i know when i had toothaches from my braces i would eat ice cream to make my mouth cold and numb and yogurt to sooth my gums

good luck

dont take to many Motrin sometimes they can keep you up so try taking melatonin its not a drug its a Vietnam that helps you fall asleep naturally its like after you eat a big turkey dinner or something you feel sleepy

I think you should see a dentist. Did you know about 70% of americans don't have adequate dental coverage or any at all. I work for a company with a dental plan that will give you up to 80% off of any dental service. And it is only $19.95 a month for an entire household. Included with the plan, you also get Vision, Prescription and Chiropractic and the discounts have been better than Blue Cross Blue Shield for me personally. Please visit our site and find out what I am talking about.

Clove oil:Is great to use for toothaches. Apply a little on the affected tooth for some time and then rinse with warm water. Boil 5 grams of fresh peppermint in 1 cup water with a little salt. And rinse mouth well with this .Peppermint is an antiseptic and contains menthol which relives pain .Try out http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/ for more details.
