If you want to get dental work abroad how do you know what they say you need is !

Question: I would go ahead and have an exam with a doctor locally that you trust. Then when you go abroad, you have an idea of what you need. Many dentists will give you a copy of the treatment they recommend and you can take that with you to reference. Good luck and be careful with treatment abroad...it can be a lot different (methods, materials, infection control standards, credentials, etc) in other countries. Hope this helps =)

This is easy! Get a second opinion from a doctor you trust. Ask your friends/family/coworkers for a referral of doctors that they have seen and liked and trusted. Then research the doc's credentials and education, and see if they are fellows in the Academy of General Dentistry or have attended LVI and are certified. You can usually also research their lawsuit status. Most states have dental societies too. I live in Virginia, and we have the Northern Virginia Dental Society, and they can refer you to a dentist. They usually are well informed as to who is good and you can trust their recommendations too. Most dentists will be happy to provide a consult at no charge or minimal charge, especially if you can provide current xrays (and I don't mean ones taken a year ago!). I know implants are usually cheaper overseas, but are you going to be able to afford to go back if you have a problem with an implant? I would see if I could afford a good local dentist who would be willing to work with me on a payment plan or who offers some type of financing such as Care Credit (private finance company specializing in dental and medical offices) before I went overseas. You just don't know what you are getting, and if you have a problem, then you're back at square one unless you can afford airfare/hotels/transportation any time you need to go see your doctor.
