Getting a filling repaired is just like getting a filling. To get the old filling out they usually drill it, but it doesn`t hurt at all! They don`t go into the gum or anything. As for the injection, it is the same thing you got when they filled the first time, usually they numb the spot before they give you the shot anyway, so you can`t feel it at all! Good luck, and relax, you have nothing to worry about!
Basically they drill the old filling out and put a new one in. I don't advise you to have it done without the injection.
The needle hurts a little bit to begin with but it's soon over. Then part of the mouth goes numb. The pain will be much more prolonged if it is done without an anasthetic. With an anasthetic it shouldln't hurt at all (poss exception wisdom teeth which were created to be a pain - the only time I've experienced pain with an anasthetic is one of those SOBs).
In the good ol days they used to use these massive needles which really did hurt but it's not too bad now.
