Recently had brace fitted, is this normal?!

Question: I had a brace fitted just over a week ago, ceramic brackets top and bottom. Already a power chain has broken off whilst eaing mashed potato, and I'm not sure how often this might happen, anyone else had this problem? The discomfort in the rest of the brace has almost completely gone, just some slight pressure remains. My next appointment, other than fixing the power chain, to tighten is not for another 7 weeks, is this a usual amount of time, or should I go sooner than this usually?
Can already feel some movement which is really encouraging! How have other people got on with their brace?

No thats normal. Your teeth need to get used to moving and trying to stay in a different position. You will regularly go to get them tightened and it will initially hurt a few days or a week or two depending on how mich they were tightened. Your dentist with be able to determine the speed of tightening and so mention it to him when you go back, but they will know whats best for your teeth. You've got a year or 2 left of braces and so they cannot move dramatically in the first week. It needs to be slow to ensure the changes last in the long term.

The best idea, in my opinion, would be to ask your dentist. I wouldn't be too worried though. He/she would know what to tell you. Every dentist has different ideas and methods. Hope this helps!

first of all im sure it's not supposed o pop eating mashed potatoes. my braces broke i thhink eating hard candy??
and the back silver part cam out eating a starburst but i dunt care. but maybe they need to tighte it or its normal just ignore it cause i dunt care unless it's a head brace

Call your orthodontist. Anything that snaps or fall off need to be checked.

my orthodontist told me that sometimes powerchains do break early, because they are more taut. Just keep up with your doctor, and you'll be good

i had a fixed brace for 2 years and retainers for longer than i can remeber. ( i was in for the long haul). i've never had problems with things falling off apart from a bracket at the back but its probably a small thing and wouldnt worry too much. braces are annoying and uncomfortable. (just to bring up your spirits) but you'll have great teeth afterwards. my appointments were generally about 5-8 weeks apart so that all seems normally. Good Luck with your brace, it will be worth it. just wear your retainer once your brace had gone cos i have a wonky back tooth now =[
