I just got mine off quite a few months ago. To start off, as long as you brushed well, you should not have to worry about marks. Most Ortho doctors teach you how to prevent that, and even if you are left with marks, you can remove them with washes or bleaching. Your teeth will be beautiful! I guarantee. According to the type of patient you are, you may just have to wear a retainer at night. I wear one only on the top at night, and then I have a tiny hidden permanent retainer on the bottom. My retainer is clear and plastic, but it takes a little getting used to. It is not hard, but you do feel it. It is worth having free and straight teeth the rest of the time though. :) You'll have no trouble!

no marks if you brushed like you were supposed to

they'll tell you not to take your retainer out when you eat (at least at first), but you really should. It'll smell pretty bad if you leave it in there.

Well, I have been doing some research because I will get mines in about a month due to having to fill 2 cavitites and a deep clean and oral surgry (need to get some teeth remove). Anyways, my mother and her sister, both had braces and you will look so much better but that is if you take care of them by brushing and so forth. I have seen pics of my family members with them and man, they look so much better and I can't wait to get mines but back to your question, to aviod the the bad things that can happen, just practice good hygine habbits and listen to whatever your centist tells you and you will be fine.

They feel funny at first, like really smooth and your lips just glide over them.
They shouldn't leave marks if you have brushed properly, haven't drank too much coffee and don't smoke.
I have seen so many people who smoke while they have braces and they don't listen when you tell them they'll have marks, then they get them off and they have marks!

The retainer took me a while to get used to it. Honestly I never got used to it and didn't wear it for long (big mistake) my teeth are still perfectly straight but my bite isn't as perfect as it should have been So bare with it!!! It is worth it in the end.

Hopefully they are straighter than they were before you had them on.

I only wear a retainer at night, so it's not that much of an adjustment.
