What do you have to pay for at the Dentists?!

Question:

What do you have to pay for at the Dentists?

UK Dentist. I've got a painful gum/general back tooth area and want to see my dentist about it but I havent a clue what you have to pay for and how much ETC. Also how do you get classed as NHS or private.

Oh, and a long time ago when i was stilll in full time education I had some fillings and a root canal done, but i've never been sure they were done right (I had to have the root canal redone as the nerves hadnt been taken out) and the cap on the root canal has a mildly sharp edge (I thought this would wear down so never mentioned it) and it came out once. If I have problems with this would the treatment still be free if it is the dentists fault there is a problem?

Answers:

all uk citizens are entitled to nhs dental treatment if you cant find an nhs dentist call your local health authority and they will find you one, dental treatment under nhs rules is only guaranteed for a yr so you'll probably have to pay again to get it corrected, the fees are broken into 3 bands - band 1 £15.90 band 2 £43.60 and band 3 £194. you should not have to pay any more than that for nhs treatment,
