Tomorrow I'm headed to the dentist for them to possible take my two bottom w!

Question: Both of my wisdom teeth have grown all the way up through the gum, so you can see the tooth clear. My question is what can a dentist do as far as pulling out the tooth. I've heard people getting surgery for wisdom teeth to be taken out. What can I expect at the dentist office?

it's not as bad as it sounds. i had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out all in the same visit. You will get your shot in the gums which isn't too bad. I'm gussing for just the bottom wisdom teeth, they will give you one or 2 shots, i had 5 shots to numb my whole mouth. after the first shot, the rest are almost painless.
they will then begin to remove the wisdom teeth in which ever method is easier. sometimes they will cut the gums and pull the tooth, or other times, they will actually crack the tooth. Now it sounds very gross and painful but thre is no pain after the shot. (I've never had the laughing gas)
the only discomfort u will feel is the pressure of them pulling. The cracking noise is a little disturbing because it's loud since it's all taking place in your mouth and ver close to ur ears.
Once it's done, they will sew u up. It will be sore about 5 or 6 hrs after u leave once the shots wear off so be ready to take some pain meds. also, u might have continued bleeding even though it's sewed up. that is normal. I recommend spitting the blood out. swallowing too much blood will make u nausious. Eating is goin to be very difficult. THe dentist will explain everything.

good luck.

Nighty night, then you wake up and they're gone.

Since they have already broke through the gums the dentist will probably numb you and yank them out. then depending on the holes they leave, you'll probably get some nasty tasting medication to keep down swelling and prevent infection, untill the holes close down.. mine didn't come through, I was put under and they were surgically removed.

Good Luck

hint - use ice pack on both sides every half hour so you don't look like a chipmunk

I had all 4 of mine pulled out the same day. ouch! I got local anesthesia (the needles really hurt) and then they pulled out one at a time using tools. You could tell they had to use a lot of force, but I didn't feel any pain. I was in pain later once the anesthesia wore off, but I took prescription pain killers that eased the pain. I was fine after 3 days.

1. They will put you to sleep that knocks you out fast!
2. After surgery they will wake you up and put you in a "recovery room" in a reciner type chair until you "come to" alert enough to leave.
3. your mouth will be full of gauze and small amount of blood keep Jello, and other foods you don't have to chew...on hand for 2 - 3days.

**Make sure you have someone to drive for you afterwards.**

You will likely be 'asleep' for the procedure so don't worry. If you are under 20, it will take about a week for the hole to heal up ..just keep it cleaned out (they will prob. give you a syringe to flush it out with ).

One other thing.. ask them about your upper ones . If your lower ones impacted, the upper ones will prob. do that too. You can save yourself a double load of grief by having both sets yanked at the same time...

.

It depends on the dentist.. Some dentists may want to send you to an oral surgeon to have the wisdom tooth/teeth extracted.. He/she may take x-rays to see if you have any more waiting in the wings and if they are impacted or not.

Generally, it's NOT that bad of a procedure. The dentist probably won't take them out this appt. He may refer you back or refer you to an oral sureon. In either case it's minor surgery and is relatively painless..

Good luck

When I had three of mine out the other week my dentist did an xray of the bottom one to see whether the root of the tooth was near a nerve. It wasn't, so he was able to pull the tooth himself. I just had injections to numb the areas then he used an instrument to wiggle the tooth from side to side which sounded horrid, but no pain. He then just pulled them out. He packed the holes with gauze which I had to bite on to stop the bleeding - which it did quite quickly. Your dentist won't attempt to take them out if there is a problem - I suspect if the root is too near the nerve then that is when surgery happens. I couldn't speak properly for a few hours afterwards and had a headache, but apart from a little tenderness I have had no problems. I ate a little that evening - just some scrambled egg and for the next few days chewed my food towards the front of my mouth. My cheeks didn't really swell either. I might have been lucky - or had a good dentist. Try not to worry too much. The anticipation is worse than the event.
