The dentist fractured my tooth?!

Question: A week and a half ago I had my first filling in about 10 years. It was not a deep filling and it was on the tooth next to my molar on the bottom. After the freezing wore Off I had a lot of pain when I chewed food (or gum) I went back to the dentist and they were baffled, said it was a perfect filling, in an ideal location. I went back a week later, and they said it was likely fractured. I am in my twenties, and have very healthy teeth..... Is the dentist responsible for this? I have never heard of anyone having so much trouble with a filling before. Now I basically have a constant tooth ache, and did I mention I had a second filling on the other side of my mouth which now hurts??

I would call the dentist back, insist that your are in terrible pain and need to be seen right away, and insist he/she fix whatever is wrong. If the dentist did, indeed, fracture your tooth then he/she should be willing to repair it at no charge. They do have a reputation to uphold. Having said that, I wouldn't go in there demanding anything. Just be nice, but firm, and also get an Rx for a decent painkiller. The dentist should be able to give you an Rx for Vicodin or something to get you through until it's fixed.

If you have dental insurance, call them, too. They may be able to help you with the dentist.
