Why do I bite the inside of my mouth?!

Question: I don't do it all the time, probably about once every 3 months, but I've noticed that when I do, it is getting worse and worse. I'm 23 now and have been doing it for as long as I can remember.

They only used to be small, but the ulcer I have at the moment practically covers the whole of the inside of the bottom of my mouth because I just couldn't stop biting. It's disgusting! I even kept saying to myself while I was doing it 'This is gonna hurt when it heals if I don't stop now' but I just couldnt.

Is this a symptom of an underlying thing, or something I should see the doctor about, or something I just need to get over??

Help please!

Cheek biting is a normal practice/ subconscious thing for many people. While it won't hurt you, it can make your cheeks very sore. The more you bite them the more they get irritated and swell and then you find yourself biting them not on purpose. Many people start this habit while wearing braces b/c the braces shave some of the cheek skin off and it makes you want to chew the loose pieces off. Some people b/c of too many teeth or missing teeth their cheeks begin to form around the teeth and sometimes you may bite them by accident. Not much you can do about it but try to stop.

You should see a doctor and try to get over it...I'm no doctor but I can tell you this, that's bad..
