Toothache and a Swollen Lip?!

Question:

Toothache and a Swollen Lip?

One of my front top teeth has been sore for about the last twelve hours or so. Now my top lip is swollen on the inside. This has happened a few times in the past year or so. I had a filling in the tooth that hurts about 3 years ago. I haven't called the dentist about it cause the pain went away after a few days the last times. I just don't understand why my lip is swollen. Anyone have any clue about this?

Answers:

You may have an abscess in that tooth. especially if your lip is swollen. This can be VERY serious and sometimes life threatening as the infection can spread to the bone and as close as your teeth are to your sinuses can actually move to the sinuses and your brain. Painful swollen teeth are not to be taken likely. Go immediately to see a dentist. If not possible then ask if they will call you some antibiotics. Take some Advil Liquigels(they work faster) Extra strength. . . .this will help with the infection and you can also take Extra Strenth Tylenol along with it to ease the pain even more. Do not brush hard on the swollen part but gently around the gum. You also migh try swishin with Lysterine and this might buy you some time before you see a dentlist. I would not wait for more than a day though.
