Will antibiotic for gum infection sure a Sinus infection too?!

Question: I go to the dentist tomorrow to get Xrays for my Wisdom teeth and everyone has told me I have an infection where they are trying to come through. (Puffy gums, swollen area, jaw pain)

I also have been coughing up dark green phelm for 2 weeks now. I think its some sort of sinus infection. I haven't gone to the doctor yet b.c I thought I could kick it alone with taking a decongestant, but I was wrong.

My Question is... if the Dentist will give me a antibiotic will that cure Both problems I have?! Or will it only cure the Infection in my gums?

the first line of treatment for dental infections is penicillin which is specific for killing those organisms that are the main cause of your dental abscess. If you truly have a sinus infection, a doctor wouldn't choose to treat it with penicillin. there are antibiotics that would work for both areas, but the problem is that you couldn't keep it from only killing bacteria in your mouth and sinus. it would also kill many of the good bacteria in your gut and probably cause days of diarrhea and other side effects. This is the reason why we mainly prescribe antibiotics that are effective for certain bacteria causing problems in certain areas.

Depends on what antibiotic he gave you. I wouldn't count on it.
